Sure, there was plenty that we didn’t like about Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, like the ol’ protagonist switcheroo, and the outrageously confusing ending, and the mind blowing amount of endgame dudity (that is, dude nudity) — but petty qualms aside, it remains one of our favorite PlayStation 2 games, just as the obligatory companion game, Substance, remains one of our favorite Xbox titles. Relive those Big Shell memories by checking out the above video, and ponder what other undiscovered pockets of nostalgia GameTrailers will drill into next week.

We here at Sega Nerds have always loved Chu-Chu Rocket and fondly remember the days of our online shenanigans to this day. What makes this commercial great, aside from the disturbingly catchy song, is how cute it is to see a cat chomping on small, unsuspecting mice, and then see a rocket explode through said cat’s body.
Ahh, I miss Chu-Chu Rocket.

Well now we have a treat for you this week on ‘Sega Game Endings’. Not one, not three, but two whole game ending videos. However they are for the same game, NiGHTS on the Sega Saturn.
As you all should know NiGHTS into Dreams allowed players to take control of two different characters, Claris and Elliot, who both have different levels, bosses and more importantly (for this feature at least), two different endings.
So for anyone who has not been able to get their hands on this Saturn classic, here are the final FMV sequences. You should notice that though the endings differ, they do both come together and cross paths at a couple of moments.

Wired Magazine is running a profile of Hiroyuki Nishimura, the otaku gamer who created Japan’s most popular bulletin board site, 2channel. The site is somewhat like Slashdot, though it’s even more popular with a broader swath of the population — it gets half a billion page views a month.
The site isn’t just for gamers, but it is the best place to go if you want to debate the most important topics on earth: Whether Famitsu magazine’s review scores are still trustworthy, hidden characters in Sumabura, why the Xbox 360 sells so poorly in Japan… that kinda thing.
In the feature on Nishimura, writer Lisa Katayama notes: "Though 2channel is text-only, users have circumvented that restriction by raising ASCII imagery to an art form, typing out elaborate illustrations that are often closer to editorial cartoons than emoticons."
That line reminded me of a hilarious collection of 2ch ASCII imagery that Kohler posted a couple of years ago, images created to illustrate the price disparity between the PS3 and the Wii. Funny stuff.
Kohler, I think that you should scan 2ch hourly for
game-related ASCII imagery, and post the best stuff on Game|Life. Can you get right on that? Kthxbye.
Meet Hiroyuki Nishimura, the Bad Boy of the Japanese Internet [Wired]

Epic Games, makers of Gears of War and the Unreal Engine, announced today that they have acquired game developer Chair Entertainment.
Chair is the creator of Undertow for Xbox Live Arcade (pictured) as well as two upcoming projects with science fiction writer Orson Scott Card, based around his books Empire and Ender’s Game.
The game developer announced in 2007 that it would use Epic’s Unreal Engine exclusively for all of its future projects.

Showing the man has a little bit of confidence in his company, Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello has bought 20,000 shares of stock at $48.37 apiece, totaling approximately $967,400. According to Barron’s Online (subscription required), this is the second purchase he’s made since becoming chief in March 2007. He now owns 47,294 shares and about 75,000 exercisable options.
Said a spokesperson, “John believes that senior executives should be invested in the company.” The stock was as high as 54.57 on May 13, the day they reported a $454 million loss in Fiscal 2008. Of course, if he’s still confident in the inevitability of the Take-Two takeover, those shares will probably rise a good bit. Speaking of which, the third extension for the Take-Two offer now puts the deadline at June 16.
